|Clinics at the Crit Series|
|Tuesday, 12 June 2012 11:11|
The development of beginner racers is one of the primary goals of the NashvilleCyclist.com summer series. Over the years we have held many clinics and have witnessed riders begin as Category 5 and rise high within the ranks of our sport. This summer is no exception as we are offering three separate clinics to address each age range and ability level. The three dates and offerings are:
Saturday, June 16 - - - Juniors age 10 to 18

Each clinic will begin at 8:30 AM CT and last for 60 minutes. The clinics are FREE but every rider must possess an annual USA Cycling road race license or purchase a one-day, $60 and $10 respectively. Also, we ask that everyone participating arrive early in order to sign a release form, and if necessary purchase the appropriate license. Registration will open at 7:30 AM, so arrive early so we can start the clinic on time and offer a great learning experience for everyone.
Attendees should bring their bicycle and must wear a helmet during the clinic. If riders plan to enter a race then you must have a mass start legal bicycle and wear a shirt/jersey that has sleeves, per USA Cycling rules. The clinic will include discussion from our coaches as well as actual riding on the course to work on skills.
The clinic will be conducted by three area cycling coaches with over 40 years of combined experience as racers and coaching.
Tim Hall - - Cycling Coach at Cumberland University & NashvilleCyclist.com
New for our 2012 clinics is the addition of Emma Sara to the usual mix of Tim and Todd. Emma not only brings an experienced view from the female perspective, but also years of experience racing as an Elite rider for Team Advil-ChapStick and Team Lipton. Emma will be working closely with our juniors as well as providing a nurturing path to beginner women racers. Todd and Tim will offer their expertise as two of the most experienced coaches in the area, both having raced at the elite level throughout the US as well as leading successful teams for many years.
The goal of the clinic is to impart basic knowledge and develop skills to help understand criterium racing and build confidence. The coaches will discuss and demonstrate topics such as cornering at speed, pack riding and etiquette, positioning, sprinting, individual and team tactics, and general rules to name a few. All three coaches will be available to answer questions afterward and each group of riders will have the opportunity to race later each day. After your race there will be a follow up group meeting to evaluate and talk about successes and how to improve upon mistakes.
At the start of each clinic most riders may be a little timid and unsure of themselves, but after the clinic each rider should feel much more confident in their abilities. It is through the development of mental and physical skills over a long period of time that we all become more accomplished. Becoming a strong confident rider does not happen overnight, but use the clinic as a platform to help you pursue racing on a more regular basis.
