UPDATE - $6,490 raised thus far for the Wounded Warrior Project and Soldier Ride this Saturday, September 24th.  Read how Cumberland University cycling is making it happen!

If you have been following Twitter @nashvillcyclist or @CUcyclingteam, or on our Facebook fan pages then you know about the excitement surrounding the Cumberland University cycling team's fundraising efforts for the Soldier Ride.  If you are unaware, then I have some incredible news to report that will amaze you.

Our current total raised is a whopping $6,490!

We have had so much success that we have had to increase our goals several times.  We began with a modest goal of $2,000 that took just 24 hours to blow past, and then in another 24 more hours we surpassed our $5,000 goal.  CU cycling currently ranks as the second best fundraising team for the ride!  I obviously underestimated how the Soldier Ride would resonate within the the cycling community.  Because of our success and belief in our abilities we have set our sights on a new target - $8,000!

To reach $8,000 would be a tremendous accomplishment considering we have spent just a week's worth of fundraising in earnest.  This endeavor is a great example why you should always dream big and have faith in yourself to reach your dreams. Granted it would have been better to have dreamt much sooner!

The ride is organized by the Wounded Warrior Project to help our servicemen and women overcome their mental and physical injuries suffered in war via the bicycle.  I cannot think of a more worthy cause for the bicycling community to get behind and support.

I think it is impossible to watch those two videos and not be compelled to give.  The support and needs of our Wounded Warriors is real.

Not only are we raising money at CU cycling, but we are participating in the Soldier Ride as a team.  Coach Tim Hall (me) and 11 riders from CU cycling will be there sporting our flame filled uniforms, along with four other friends who have decided to join our team for the day.  You too can join our team and participate with us.  Just click on the links to give and choose "join our team", and then fill out all the necessary information.  If you join CU cycling's team then commit to donating or raising at least $150 on top of your $25 entry fee.

I challenge you to step up, help us reach our goal, and support our true American heroes.

Tim Hall
