Bank of America Team Points Omnium 2011 - FINAL Standings HERE Cumberland Transit Cycling made it official and seized the Bank of America Team Omnium Championship and earned the Team Cup in the 2011 Gateway Tire & Service Criterium Race Series. Cumberland Transit took over the lead near the half-way point in the 14 race series and never looked back. With strong overall performances from omnium champion Barrett Krei in the Pro/1/2/3, Amanda Ragle in Women, and William Welborn in Category 4, combined with their depth of strength in each field they were able to drop the remaining teams with relative ease. The team finished with 1203 total points, 282 points ahead of 2nd place SVMIC Cycling, and established a new team record by 33 points over the 2010 total of NashvilleCyclist.com. In 2010 Cumberland Transit finished fourth overall, so their improved performance in the 2011 series is a testament to their teamwork all year long. The remaining two podium spots were still up for grabs going into the final race of the series. The battle was between SVMIC Cycling and Team Biker's Choice. SVMIC had been holding off a late surge by Biker's Choice, but it would take a solid final performance to ensure they would hold onto second place. Biker's Choice won the team points total (103 pts) on the final night by securing victories from Joe Grubbs in Cat 4 and Jon Cherry in Cat 5, but SVMIC held on with a victory of their own by Jessica Owings in the Women race. In the end SVMIC Cycling was able to remain in second place by a scant 8 points over Team Biker's Choice, 921 to 913 points, respectively. SVMIC has also improved their team performance significantly. In 2009 the team ranked 10th and in 2010 ranked 8th overall in the criterium series. Biker's Choice has consistently been knocking on the podium door, and in 2011 it marks their first time walking through to finish 3rd. Biker's Choice finished 4th in 2009, and 5th in 2010. Though both squads were outgunned by Cumberland Transit, they should be proud of their improved performances as it indicates they are among the strongest teams in the Middle Tennessee racing community. Champion Cumberland Transit was surprised by our new trophy for 2011 - the Team Omnium Cup! The new award should look great on display down at their location on West End. Word has it the team celebrated by having each team member drink from the Team Omnium Cup. Now we have a new tradition to uphold at the end of the 2012 criterium series! See you all next season my friends! |
